In the 90s I prepared a number of vocal publications for Hal Leonard, including this award-winning Brahms anthology, Schubert and Strauss collections, as well as Mark Adamo’s “Little Women”.
Rounds” by John Williams was premiered in 2012 by Spanish guitarist Pablo Sáinz Villegas at the Parkening International Guitar Competition. The piece is dedicated to Christopher Parkening. The publication includes Mr. Villegas’ fingering edits.
Over the past 20 years I have engraved hundreds of symphonic band and full orchestra pieces for Hal Leonard. They all had one common requirement: to make the score as big and legible as possible for the conductor. Given the number of staves, that meant a lot of tweaking.
Hal Leonard, and especially Paul Lavender, vice president of Instrumental Publications, has a special relationship to the United States Marine Band, having arranged many of John Williams’ scores for The President’s Own band. I received this commemorative coin as a sign of gratitude for my engravings.
